V.u. Meter For Mac

The VU Meter plug-in provides the best of both worlds for your signal metering needs: Analog-style VU meters (with clip indicators), and LED-segment-style peak meters. VU meters are most useful for showing overall signal level, and peak meters (akin to the channel meters in the Studio One Console) are most useful for keeping track of peak.

  • These audio VU meter have been tested to run on Windows 2008 R2 which is the OS that I am currently using. All the Creative USB Sound Blaster sound card that I have is able to work with the 5 audio VU meter software that is listed below.
  • It used to be a must-have on any hi-fi, a pair of moving coil meters or LED bar graphs, the VU meter. Your 1980s boombox would have had them, for example. VU, for “Volume Units”, is a m.
  • MAC OSX TIPS: MacOS users must install the KK7DS Python runtime before the application will execute. This only needs to be installed once. OS X support is limited to Intel architecture. PowerPC is not supported. Chirp.app is unsigned. With default security settings, you will need a special procedure to run it: Application Security in 10.9.

I recently bought a cheap VU meter on Amazon, which looks very cool but needs some circuitry to get running. Bluestacks root mac. Unlike vintage meters, which can be driven by the audio signal directly, newer (and especially cheap) meters require DC current. A simple circuit, based on this example by Rod Elliott, uses four diodes to convert the AC audio signal into DC, plus a resistor and capacitor to dampen the movement of the needle.

See Rod’s post for lots more technical detail and a more complex driver circuit. Of course, this is pretty lo-fi and not studio-quality equipment… it also didn’t cost $1000.

The BOM for this circuit. These are pretty common parts and can be substituted for what you have lying around. In particular, the value of the capacitor should be experimented with. 100uF worked pretty well for me, but the choice is forgiving.

PreSonus has announced that its add-on plugins for Studio One are now compatible with all digital audio workstations capable of hosting VST3, AU, and AAX plugins. This includes the free VU Meter plugin.

VU Meter is a simple volume metering utility designed to help with gain staging while mixing in the box. It features a couple of analog-style VU meters with clip indicators, along with a couple of basic peak level meters and a correlation meter. The VU meters are handy for monitoring the loudness level of a track, whereas the peak meters show the actual peak volume in real-time.

The user can fine-tune the sensitivity level for both VU meters and adjust the VU meter scale. There are four preset scale values available (-18 dB, -12 dB, -6 dB, and 0 dB).

Until now, VU Meter was only available as a freely downloadable add-on for the PreSonus Studio One digital audio workstation. With the latest update, VU Meter is compatible with any DAW software, as long as the application can handle hosting audio plugins in VST3, AU, or AAX format. To download the plugin version of VU Meter, the user must first complete the checkout process (valid email address required) and install the PreSonus Hub application. PreSonus Hub will then handle the download and installation of VU Meter and any other PreSonus plugins.

In addition to VU Meter, users can now also use other Studio One add-ons as cross-platform plugins. This includes the excellent Fat Channel XT software, which comes with numerous free and paid expansions. You can also purchase the Channel Strip Collection, CTC-1 Pro Console Shaper, or Ampire and use them in your favorite DAW. Here’s hoping that Studio One’s native effects, such as my all-time favorite Pro EQ parametric equalizer, will also become available for use as VST3 plugins.
